For those that might be interested, I took these this morning by sitting the kid on the kitchen table by the wall. Set the shutter speed between 1/500th-1/640th of a second (the fast my flash will sync) and shot with my flash at it's lowest setting into the wall. Varied the aperture to expose it properly (F11-F8), then made up the rest in the GIMP.
